UHF RFID tags operate in the 860–960 MHz band and enable reads at distances of up to 10 metres without bringing the tag close to the reader. Frequently asked questions about RFID & NFC tags

What is the difference between an RFID tag and an NFC tag?

NFC is a subset of RFID operating at 13.56 MHz that is compatible with smartphones. RFID is a broader term that also covers 125 kHz (LF) and 860–960 MHz (UHF) frequencies, which cannot be read by a phone. All NFC tags are RFID, but not all RFID tags are NFC.

Which RFID frequency do I need for my application?

It depends on the use case: LF (125 kHz) for classic access control and animal tracking; HF/NFC (13.56 MHz) for marketing, hotels and digital menus; UHF (860–960 MHz) for logistics, warehousing and long-range reading. For waste containers, HID Global Bin Tags are available in all three frequencies.

Can I customise RFID tags with my logo?

Yes. Adhesive tags and labels can be customised with offset printing (large runs) or digital printing (short runs, no minimum). We also offer sequential numbering, QR codes and laser engraving. Industrial tags and Bin Tags can be supplied in your corporate colour.

How many wash cycles do textile RFID tags withstand?

Laundry RFID tags are certified for more than 200 industrial wash cycles at 95 °C. They can be applied by sewing, heat transfer or as a hang tag, and are compatible with ISO 15693 and EPC Gen2 standards.

What are Bin Tags and what are they used for?

Bin Tags are rigid HID Global tags (30×30×15 mm, PA6 encapsulated in PUR) designed to identify waste containers and outdoor assets. Available in LF (125 kHz and 134.2 kHz), HF (13.56 MHz) and UHF, they can only be applied to non-metallic surfaces.
